Week 4

Raised Floor Installation 

INFINITI IT LIMITED a data centre consultancy and construction specialist has been awarded a "Fast Track" data centre design & build contract for a large global finance company with UK headquarters located in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Over the next 6 weeks we will be providing you with a detailed insight that covers the implementation of a Micro data centre facility. This Blog will cover all installation works right through to final commissioning, witness testing, project completion and handover to our client all within an aggressive 6 week programme.

The design ethos of the data centre facility is scalable and offers our client a complete flexibility with future expansion and will accommodate 100% growth if required, but still ensuring losses are kept to a minimum and that the data centre is as efficient as possible even at lower initial day loads.

Performance Specification Overview

Firstly, many thanks for the positive comments and feedback on the blog so far and apologies in advance for the quality of some of the pictures. Work is being carried out under temporary lighting and although it’s safe to work within, it’s not great for taking photos.

This week the main focus was to install the heavy duty raised access flooring system, plinths and support stands for the CRAC units (computer room air conditioning) installation of the wall which segregates the data centre and the plant spaces, concrete plinth that will support the CRAC unit condensers and finally fitting of all external weather louvers for the gas extract and fresh air ventilation fans.

The above image also shows the initial positioning of the floor pedestals that will support the heavy duty raised access flooring. Once the final positioning has been confirmed with the site construction drawings, each pedestal is fixed to the floor slab with a fixing and chemical bonding agent.

Above image shows the initail positioning of the floor stands that will support the CRAC units (computer room air-conditioning).

Data Centre Completed Raised Floor

The installation of the heavy duty raised access flooring system is now complete and air grilles are roughly positioned. The flooring system is capable of supporting 15kN/m2 and has a room void height of 400mm which is more than adequate for the distribution of cold air from the CRAC units.









Data Centre Raised Floor

Plinths or floor stands that will support the CRAC units are fitted into position along with anti-vibration neoprene to mitigate noise or vibration. The stands are supplied with a lip that support the flooring system and provide a tidy finish







Data Centre Installation Gas Extract Fan

Above image showing the gas extract fan required to vent smoke following a discharge of the IG55 gas suppression system. The fan unit has been mounted and fixed to the floor slab and ducting has been fitted above the level of the external floor level. The operation of the extract fan is via the fire suppression control panel.









Data Centre Pressure Relief Damper

Fitting of pressure relief damper also required for the effective operation of the IG55 gas suppression agent.

Fitting of all weather security rated louvre grille required for gas extract fan.

Fitting of all weather security rated louvre grille required for fire suppression pressure vent.

Preparation for CRAC Unit Condensers
