Complete Design & Build Data Centre Project
Introduction
The Fast2host group is a long established family-owned company with a strong focus on customer service. Based in St Neots, Cambridgeshire, the group has evolved from a relatively small web hosting company to providing a range of business-to-business services.
Towards the end of 2023, Fast2Host approached INFINITI for consultancy services regarding their plans to implement a brand new data centre located in Cambridge to support their ever expanding web hosting services. Following a initial design and site survey, INFINITI provided a full detailed proposal and programme for their new Tier 3 data centre.
Throughout the design process, INFINITI worked with Fast2Host to create an energy efficient solution that would not only support all essential daily services but also accommodate for future expansion with N+1 redundant systems. This partnership was based on INFINITI's proven expertise in delivering innovative design and robust data centre installations. Shortly after submission, Fast2Host awarded INFINITI the design and build contract and site mobilisation started as early as March 2024.

Onsite Fast2Host Manager
- Fully phased design & build package provided in the capacity of design and build contractor including project management and site supervision to CDM requirements.
- Supply & installation of new 1 hour fire rated composite room build with steel post structure.
- Supply & Installation of new 1 hour fire rated door.
- Installation of suspended ceiling to provide hot air return plenum to improve cooling efficiency.
- Supply & Installation of 2# 18kW Stulz downflow units (with external condensers) Including all pipework, refrigerant, testing and commissioning.
- Supply & Installation of fresh air ventilation damper.
- Design and Installation of Electrical systems which include new MPDU, parallel bypass panel, 2# CPDU’s and associated cabling to support 16 cabinets.
- Supply & Installation of 2# 30kVA Riello Parallel UPS systems
- Installation of electrical lighting systems with emergency lighting.
- Bespoke hot aisle containment system to improve cooling efficiency and managed airflows.
- Generator feeds.
- Data centre handover and training for onsite IT support staff and data centre operators.
Challenges
Construction began in March 2024 with site starting as an empty industrial unit in which INFINITI had to start from the ground up. This required us to design and construct a new sealed envelope room with 1 hour fire rated composite wall panelling and supporting steel posts opposed to retrofitting in an existing sealed space.
As this was an unmanned site, Fast2Host required a company that could not only deliver a team they could trust to work under strict authorisation and privacy, one who would not only tick all the compliance boxes but would also complete the work within the given timeframe and budget.
Despite variations and additional requests from the client during the project which included alternative wiring requirements for a new Generator. This project was fully delivered, installed and commissioned in just 10 weeks with a full site handover and training provided on the day of completion.
Results
INFINITI successfully completed the project to the specified requirements, while staying within the allocated budget and, most importantly, meeting all the deadlines set by the client. As a result, Fast2Host was able to start providing their existing and new customers with additional secure storage and webhosting services.
