Introduction
Digital Space provides a flexible platform from which businesses can manage AWS, Azure, Microsoft 365, IBM cloud portals and private data centre environments such as a Digital Space Virtual Data Centre (VDC), integrated with Fortinet and Cisco Meraki security platforms as well as BT Wholesale and TalkTalk Business connectivity. From authentication to DNS and billing to cloud orchestration, the Digital Space service management platform provides businesses with the infrastructure, tools, and data to enable positive and effective change.
In June 2023, Digital Space approached INFINITI’s consultancy services to review its critical UPS systems in its Newark datacentre, report findings and make recommendations for modernisation and improvement. During the site survey, INFINITI took readings to demonstrate that the existing units were operating inefficiently as well as being old. Following a rigorous evaluation process in which INFINITI presented their recommendations, Digital Space awarded INFINITI the contract to supply and replace Digital Space’s existing UPS system with new, innovative units to guarantee optimal efficiency without downtime to their live operations.
❝ The project was managed with great efficiency and diligence, ensuring that the UPS upgrade was completed on time and with no disruption to our online services. Infiniti's team demonstrated excellent coordination and communication, keeping my team informed at every stage of the process. ❞

Challenges
This UPS strip out and upgrade began in September 2023, and despite the many challenges presented by a live critical environment, small workspace with access restrictions and the removal of existing systems, it was installed and commissioned in just four weeks.
This project was made even more challenging as the existing UPS systems had to be removed and upgraded whilst providing no disruption or downtime to Digital Space’s critical online services. Digital Space needed a company that could provide them with a trustworthy team to operate under strict authorisation and confidentiality. INFINITI’s team not only met all compliance requirements but also completed the assigned tasks within the specified timeframe and budget.
Results
INFINITI successfully completed the UPS upgrade to our customer's specified requirements for existing and future expansion within the allocated budget and most importantly, without any disruption or downtime of critical online services. In comparison to the previous systems in place, our new UPS solution is around 16% more efficient.
Using the previous and new annual kW usage figures with a UPS efficiency calculator, we estimate a substantial annual saving on electrical costs for our client. Our new UPS solution is projected to have a return on investment in two and a half years with a total service life of 10 years.
Additional benefits our customer is experiencing from our tailored solution include:
- A long-term efficient UPS solution to support existing IT loads and future expansion.
- Efficiency for current and future compliance – helping meet all global standards including regulations now and in the future.
