Introduction

ARM design scalable, energy efficient processors and related technologies to deliver the intelligence in applications ranging from sensors to servers, including smartphones, tablets, enterprise infrastructure and the Internet of Things.

In November 2021, ARM began the search for a complete refurbishment for one of their HQ server rooms. This required a company with exceptional experience and expertise in server room Design & Migration who could also advise throughout the process. Shortly after the tender was released they began working with INFINITI and site mobilisation was actioned within a few weeks of order confirmation.

Challenges

Delivering with full compliance and a hassle free installation across the works scope. ARM required a company that could not only work under strict authorisation and within an live environment but deliver a team they could trust to get on with the work required and who would tick all the compliance boxes within the given time and budget.

A number of data centres at their headquarters site are scheduled for upgrades to the cooling, UPS, and power infrastructure, including the EMS.

Solution

Following a careful and thorough selection process, INFINITI was appointed to deliver the design and refurbishment of several server rooms at Arm HQ. The project scope included the installation of one hour fire rated composite panelling systems with high security features, the provision and integration of 20kVA UPS units and associated electrical systems. Lastly, the refurbishment of fire rated doorways with upgraded security doors.

Additional works comprised the installation of heavy duty anti-static vinyl flooring, certified CAT6 data systems, and comprehensive Environmental Monitoring Systems. INFINITI also provided specialist guidance throughout, including the design of a Class 2 CPNI base and an SR4 security rated modular composite data centre structure.

Results

INFINITI successfully completed the project to specification, within budget, and, most importantly, within the agreed deadlines. The client was able to seamlessly migrate all existing rack equipment back into the newly refurbished IT infrastructure.

The solution delivered was designed to support long term virtualisation and future expansion, while ensuring ease of management, improved efficiency, and compliance with current and future global standards and regulations. The project was delivered as a competitive solution that met both budgetary and timescale requirements, with no disruption to business operations.
